La estructura para decir la hora es simple:
Son las...
It's... (lit. they are the)
Si es hora punta (o'clock), añades el número de la hora, y la parte del día:
Son las dos de la tarde
It's two in the afternoon
or
Son las dos de la mañana
It's two in the morning
Si ha pasado menos de media hora desde la hora punta (o'clock), añades "y...":
Less than half an hour from o'clock:
Son las tres y diez
It's ten past three. Lit. "It's three and ten"
Son las cuatro y veinte
It's four past twenty. Lit "It's four and ten".
Si ha pasado más de media hora desde la hora punta, añades "menos...":
Son las doce menos diez
It's ten to twelve. Lit. "It's twelve minus ten"
Y si el minutero está en uno de los cuartos del reloj:
If the minute pointer is at one of the quarters of the clock:
Son las seis y cuarto
It's quarter past six. Lit. "It's six and a quarter"
Son las seis y media
It's half past six. Lit. "It's six and a half"
Son las siete menos cuarto
It's quarter to seven. Lit. "It's seven minus a quarter"
Ya que "Son" es el plural de "ser", cuando es la una, decimos:
Es la una
